About David Skidmore
Wildlife, Pets and Portraits
David is a local artist who has lived in Bromsgrove for the last 28 years, after growing up in the black Country. For as long as he can remember he has always had an interest in art, which he studied at school then later at college. He works in all mediums, but particularly enjoys graphite pencil, which forces him to concentrate on tonal values and the importance of light and shade.
He has always been fascinated by the human form in particular portraiture and never tires of trying to capture someone on canvas or paper. Following a visit to Kenya in 1985 he developed a love of wildlife and the beauty of the animal world. He hopes that this is evident in his work.
David is also an experienced woodcarver, having carved on and off for around 35 years. Initially learning from Bill Sproat who was the original Jinney Ring woodcarver. Then in later years he was tutored by Master carver Michael Painter.
David is always happy to discuss his art, should you wish for a particular wildlife subject, or a portrait of someone special or a favourite pet.
