'Flights of Fancy' Art Competition

We invite entries for our ’Flights of Fancy' art competition and exhibition. The title has been inspired by both the Jinney Ring ducks and our Kite Flying Day taking place on 30th September, but the remit is as wide as you want it to be: spread the wings of your imagination! This competition is being run to support one of our 2018 charities—the ‘’Basement Project’. This charity supports young homeless people in North Worcestershire. (More information on our website) .

This is an inclusive competition, encouraging artists of all levels and ages, using all sorts of media and as much enthusiasm as possible. You can join in with a picture, a photo, a drawing or a sculpture. If you don’t want to enter but still want to support please just come along to encourage, comment and vote for the best ‘Flight of Fancy’ in each category.

Six Categories

There will be six categories of entry, each will have prizes:-
1. Painting ---watercolour; oils, acrylics

2. Drawing—/sketch ---; pencil; charcoal etc.

3. Photograph --- black and white; colour (computer enhanced is fine too!).

4. Alternative media sculpture --- textile; metalwork etc.

5. Children’s painting ,drawing or model — 4 up to 8 years

6. Children’s painting or drawing or model — over 8 to 12 years

The 'Rules' & Entry Fee

There is a £7.50 (£4/children) entry fee which will be donated to The Basement Project in its entirety.

All entries will be asked to comment on connection with the title and should be submitted to the Gift Shop complete with an application form for judging no later than 8th August 2018. (Application form can be downloaded from below).

All entries will be photographed and put onto Instagram for comments and ‘likes’ Click here to view (BasementB61) when entries start coming in

Entrants will then be shortlisted by a panel of judges (panel members announced on website in June 2018).

In each category five entries will be shortlisted for second stage judging during August. The judges will take into account Instagram feedback.

The five shortlisted entries within each group will be displayed in an exhibition at the Jinney Ring which will be run alongside our annual Sculpture Trail (runs August 25th- Sept 30th). Visitors will be invited to vote for their favourite entries to decide a winner for each category, voting closes on 23rd September.

An overall winner will then be selected by our panel of judges from the 6 category winners.

The Prizes

The Prizes for the winner of each category will be:

Classes 1-4 A Gift Voucher for either a two course meal for 2 people for our daytime restaurant or 2 tickets for Pudding Night . Plus an option to work with our gift shop buyer to promote and sell your winning piece in our Gallery.

Classes 5&6 A 2 hour hands on clay session with the The Jinney Ring Potters (for 2 children).

The Grand Winner

The overall Winner of the competition will be selected from the six category winners and will be awarded a handmade ‘trophy’ piece made by Lappelli Enamel .

The top five selected in each class and the overall class winners will also be offered the opportunity to donate their work for display on the walls of the Basement Project Centre in Bromsgrove.
